Professor Avner Belkin is a leading ophthalmologist with subspecialty expertise in glaucoma, cataract, and complex anterior segment surgery. He serves as Director of the Glaucoma Service at Meir Medical Center in Kfar Saba and is a Senior Clinical Lecturer in Ophthalmology at the Tel Aviv University Faculty of Medicine.
Professor Belkin graduated from the Faculty of Medicine at Ben-Gurion University (2009), completed his ophthalmology residency at Meir Medical Center (2016), and pursued advanced subspecialty training in adult glaucoma (2018, Toronto, Canada) and glaucoma, cataract, and complex anterior segment surgery (2019, Toronto, Canada).
He has co-authored numerous scientific articles on glaucoma and cataract and regularly lectures at medical conferences in Israel and abroad. He is an active member of the Israeli Society of Ophthalmology, the European Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery (ESCRS), and the American Glaucoma Society (AGS).
Professor Belkin is a graduate of the internationally recognized GAASS Program (Glaucoma and Advanced Anterior Segment Surgery) in Toronto, where he acquired advanced expertise in a wide range of minimally invasive glaucoma surgeries (MIGS), including stent implantation, canaloplasty, and bypass techniques. He also trained extensively in cataract surgery and advanced anterior segment procedures, including premium intraocular lens implantation and iris reconstruction.
The program placed a strong emphasis on combining surgical approaches—integrating cataract and glaucoma procedures into a customized surgical intervention tailored to each patient’s condition.
Professor Belkin has performed thousands of cataract and glaucoma surgeries, including traditional techniques, MIGS, and complex combined cataract-glaucoma procedures. His expertise includes successfully managing challenging cases, such as implementing MIGS in complex cases including revision surgeries after prior glaucoma procedures, intraocular lens exchange, and repositioning or fixation of malpositioned artificial lenses to ocular structures.
